DESCRIPTION:The JIA Foundation is inviting you to to the launch of our sophomore exhibition at Chinatown House starting Saturday\, January 17\, 2026. \n\n\n\nMade in Chinatown II tells the story of four legacy Chinatown businesses. Carefully curated and intimate photographs and videos will bring you into the universes of Julie\, the gregarious owner of a hair salon on Clark Street\, three generations of the Hui family and their traditional Chinese medicine herbal store\, Mr. Wang\, an unassuming but extremely talented visual artist\, and Mr. Kwan and Candy\, the father-daughter duo behind a beloved Cantonese-style restaurant. \n\n\n\nJoin us from 5pm – 7pm this Saturday\, January 17\, at the end of the first opening day\, for a talk with the artists behind this project. \n\n\n\nThis exhibition is free of charge and will be open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays\, 11 AM to 4 PM\, from January 17 to May 10th. \n\n\n\n家基金會誠摯邀請您參加於2026年1月17日（星期六）在滿華庭開幕的第二屆展覽。 \n\n\n\n《唐人街製造 II》講述了唐人街四家老字號的故事。精心挑選的、充滿溫情的照片和影片將帶您走進它們各自獨特的世界。您將認識克拉克街一家美髮沙龍熱情好客的老闆Julie，惠氏家族三代人經營的傳統中藥店，謙遜低調卻才華橫溢的視覺藝術家王先生，以及深受喜愛的粵菜餐廳背後的父女搭檔關先生和Candy。 \n\n\n\n本週六，1月17日，在展覽首日開幕後，下午5點至7點，歡迎您參加與本計畫藝術家的交流會。 \n\n\n\n本次展覽免費對外開放，開放時間為1月17日至5月10日每週六\, 日上午11點至下午4點。 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nChris Lau is a professional photographer\, videographer and visual artist specializing in documentary photojournalistic portraiture that reveals people’s realities and authenticity through an anti-oppressive lens. He believes photography has the power to change people’s attitudes and lives. In 2023\, Chris produced a documentary portrait series\, titled ‘Out of the Shadows’\, which creatively used light and shadow to recognize people living on the margins of society (https://chrislauphoto.ca/out-of-the-shadows). \n\n\n\nRichmond Lam is a portrait and documentary photographer based in Montréal\, originally from Hong Kong\, with formative years spent in London. His practice is grounded in a quiet\, empathetic gaze—attuned to subtle gestures and unspoken atmospheres. Working fluidly between personal and commissioned projects\, Richmond creates intimate\, psychologically rich portraits that explore presence\, identity\, and place. \n\n\n\nMarc Chanchaleun is a Montréal-based videographer and filmmaker working at the intersection of documentary and visual storytelling. His approach is grounded in observation and intention\, paying close attention to natural movement. Inspired by quiet moments\, he creates films that feel honest and human\, exploring identity and real-world presence through a cinematic lens. His work lives in the in-between—where gestures speak louder than words and atmosphere reflects the subtle poetry of real life. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n劉均龍現為專業攝影師、攝像師及視覺藝術家，專精於紀實新聞攝影肖像創作，透過反壓迫視角揭示人們真實的樣貌。2023年，劉均龍創作紀錄肖像系列《走出陰影》，以光影藝術手法聚焦社會邊緣群體（https://chrislauphoto.ca/out-of-the-shadows）。 \n\n\n\n林嘉頎是一位定居滿地可的肖像與紀實攝影師，原籍香港，青年時期旅居倫敦。他的創作根植於靜謐而富同理心的凝視——敏銳捕捉細微的肢體語言與無聲的氛圍。在個人創作與委託攝影間自如切換，林嘉頎透過探索存在感、身份認同與空間場域，創作出充滿親密感與心理深度的肖像作品。 \n\n\n\nMarc Chanchaleun 是一位常駐滿地可的錄像藝術家兼電影製作人，創作橫跨紀錄片與視覺敘事。他的創作手法奠基於觀察與意圖，細膩捕捉自然流動的動態。受靜謐時刻啟發，Marc 創作的影像作品真誠而富有人性，透過電影語言探討身分認同與現實世界中的存在感。他的作品存在於「之間」的狀態——在那裡，動作勝過言語，氛圍映照出日常生活中細膩而內斂的詩意。 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more about the MADE IN CHINATOWN II Project

DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, May 20\, join us in celebrating the diversity of stories\, people\, and relationships that make up Chinatown. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFor the first time\, both phases of our Made in Chinatown (MIC) project are brought together into one hardcover book. As our photo exhibition showcasing four Chinatown legacy businesses draws to an end\, we take a look back on the whole MIC project\, which has now spanned over two years\, several locations\, and dozens of intimate portraits. Each of these portraits opens up a window into Chinatown’s living\, complex ecosystem\, reminding us that Chinatown is—and has always been—more than meets the eye.  \n\n\n\n\nChinatown is made of back alleys\, secret staircases\, tight buildings\, and the last piece of unpaved land in downtown Montreal.Chinatown is made of family restaurants\, herbal shops\, artists’ studios\, and beauty salons.Chinatown is made of clan associations\, language classes\, and places of sanctuary. (3rd floor) \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\nKeith Lock’s Intimate Diasporas Retrospective \n\n\n\nPresented May 25–30\, 2026\, by Panorama-cinéma and the Cinémathèque québécoise\, in collaboration with the Miao Collective\, the JIA Foundation\, the Festival Accès Asie\, and Tënk Canada\, Keith Lock’s Intimate Diasporas invites viewers to discover the first Chinese-Canadian filmmaker\, whose body of work spans from the 1960s to the present day. A former assistant to Michael Snow and Claude Jutra\, Keith Lock is the creator of a body of work that is unique in Quebec and deeply diverse\, combining experimental and documentary approaches in the service of fiction and even animation\, always with the primary goal of capturing what allows community life to emerge and endure. \n\n\n\nEach screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker. Thursday’s screening will be followed by a discussion between Keith Lock and three filmmakers from the Asiate en court competition at the Accès Asie Festival: Rui Ting Ji\, Gavin Seal\, and kimura-byol lemoine.
