The family business that introduced Québec to fortune cookies several decades ago leaves behind a rich and layered history\, the discovering of which might spark joy comparable only to the experience of chewing into a Wing’s almond cookie for the first time. JIA’s newest exhibition dives into the legacy Wing’s has built and how this legacy came to be\, spanning the arrival of the Hee Chong Lee in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu at the end of the 19th century\, the Chinese Head Tax and Exclusion years\, and all that Wing’s came to be and represent for the family\, patrons\, and community it nurtured. \n\n\n\nWing Noodles: The Heart of Chinatown invites you to dig deeper into this history and discover the stories of spaces\, people\, and objects at the very heart of Wing’s. \n\n\n\nBeware: its contents might lead you down a rabbit hole journey into research topics as precise as networks of Chinese restaurants in Eastern North America or as large as heritage preservation. DESCRIPTION:De fortune et d’avenir (2/3)Causeries approfondies autour de Nouilles Wing : Le cœur du Quartier chinois \n\n\n\nCette deuxième causerie portera sur les objets qui racontent des histoires oubliées ou jamais rendues publiques\, la préservation patrimoniale au niveau local et la collection Wings (détenue par le MEM—Centre des mémoires montréalaises\, don de Gilbert Lee\, Nouilles Wing Ltée).  \n\n\n\nL’idée de la collection Wings est née lorsque Gilbert Lee\, copropriétaire de Wings\, a mandaté son ami Jean-Philippe Riopel\, guide de Montréal et muséologue\, de créer une collection constituée de plus de 5000 lots d’objets liés à l’histoire de la famille Lee\, celle de Wings\, et celle du Quartier chinois. Ce travail serait porté par la nouvelle OBNL Objets de Mémoire\, groupe d’action muséologique\, et ses collaborateur·ices. Après 4 ans de travail acharné\, la collection Wings a récemment été cédée au MEM—Centre des mémoires montréalaises par les frères Garnet et Gilbert Lee. DESCRIPTION:De fortune et d’avenir (3/3)Causeries approfondies autour de Nouilles Wing : Le cœur du Quartier chinois \n\n\n\nCette dernière causerie portera sur l’histoire communautaire\, le cinéma documentaire et le pouvoir transformateur de la narration. \n\n\n\nKaren Cho partage ses réflexions sur le processus de transformation de près de 130 ans d’histoire en une exposition vivante\, « Nouilles Wing – Le cœur du Quartier chinois »\, et sur le processus de documentation des dernières semaines de production de Nouilles Wing et de l’héritage qu’elle laisse aux générations futures\, lesquelles feront partie d’un film documentaire à venir.
