Exhibition Catalogue Launch – Maison Yep-Riopel
2025-11-22 / 17:00 – 19:00

What do patriot Augustin-Norbert Morin, the Chinese freemasons, and the Yep family have in common?
They all lived at 116-118 de la Gauchetière West, a building that has witnessed many acts of resistance over the centuries, the most recent one having led to the building’s designation as a protected heritage site. This fascinating history has been showcased in the JIA Foundation’s inaugural exhibition, Maison Yep-Riopel: A Layered History of Resistance and Belonging, which has been displayed at Chinatown House since the end of March 2025.
As the exhibition is nearing its end, join us for the launch of the official exhibition catalogue, filled with additional insights about the exhibition’s creation, testimonies from people involved and visitors, and recollections from the Fireside chats at the hearth of Chinatown House.
The launch will also feature a discussion between Sandy Yep, Bernard Vallée, and Lan Yee, who all played a role in researching and setting up the exhibition. They will share behind-the-scenes stories about the exhibition and answer all your burning questions.
Light refreshments will be served.
If you would like your very own copy of the catalogue, it will be available on site to all those who donate 60$ or more to the JIA Foundation. All proceeds will help support JIA’s cultural programming at Chinatown House.
