Launch: Placemaking & Placekeeping in Montreal’s Chinatown: Perception, Storytelling and Community Organizing

2025-01-16 / 17:00 2025-03-30 / 19:00

For over a century, diasporic communities in Chinatown have fought the tides of erasure by building a constellation of rafts in all manner of forms: Clan Associations, dance troupes, shelters, Cantonese opera performances, language schools, seniors’ homes, temples, restaurants, and more. This exhibition builds upon the inaugural year of the JIA Foundation’s community advocacy, festivals, art, and storytelling, done alongside the Chinatown Reimagined Forum’s three days of sharing and mobilization. This year’s lecture and exhibition series aims to build bridges between grassroots organizations and academic communities, creating a platform for discussion on the evolving movements and future possibilities for Chinatown.

Launch event: January 16th at 5pm.
