On Wednesday, May 20, join us in celebrating the diversity of stories, people, and relationships that make up Chinatown.

For the first time, both phases of our Made in Chinatown (MIC) project are brought together into one hardcover book. As our photo exhibition showcasing four Chinatown legacy businesses draws to an end, we take a look back on the whole MIC project, which has now spanned over two years, several locations, and dozens of intimate portraits. Each of these portraits opens up a window into Chinatown’s living, complex ecosystem, reminding us that Chinatown is—and has always been—more than meets the eye.

Chinatown is made of back alleys, secret staircases, tight buildings, and the last piece of unpaved land in downtown Montreal.
Chinatown is made of family restaurants, herbal shops, artists’ studios, and beauty salons.
Chinatown is made of clan associations, language classes, and places of sanctuary.
Chinatown is made of stories, legends, gossip, and memories.
Chinatown is made of people.
Chinatown is made, and it makes us back in return.
